A Successful Launch of Community Living Campbellford/Brighton’s 2016 Public Awareness Campaign!
Community Living Campbellford/Brighton was excited to launch our 2016 Public Awareness Campaign consisting of many activities and events designed to raise awareness of Who Community Living is, What we do and What valuable services we offer to our community.
Commencing with “Random Acts of Kindness Week” during the week of February 8-12, 2016, we distributed “Kindness Jars” containing flower seed packets along with 47 suggestions of random acts of kindness to 31 recipients throughout the communities of Trent Hills, Brighton and Cobourg. Recipients were encouraged to select one idea per week for the 47 remaining weeks in 2016 and “Sow the Seeds of Kindness” as they attempt to carry out each week’s idea as many times as they can. Attached to the Kindness Jars was a small bag of chocolates, a CLC/B pen and a personalized note of thanks.
We were pleased to recognize the efforts and ongoing contributions of some amazing volunteers during the week of April 11-15, 2016 during “Volunteer Appreciation Week”. Small gifts of appreciation and a note of thanks were presented to just under 50 dedicated volunteers throughout the communities of Trent Hills and Brighton.
“The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.”
In Celebration of “May is Community Living Month”
As we do every May, Community Living Campbellford/Brighton proudly joined with other member organizations in the Community Living Ontario provincial awareness campaign of “Community Living Month”.
Mayoral Proclamations that “May is Community Living Month” in the Municipalities of Brighton and Trent Hills were made during April Council Meetings. We are appreciative of the support of our goals to not only raise awareness but to increase opportunities for people with an intellectual disability within our communities.
Day at the Legislature
On May 12, 2016 a group of delegates from Community Living Campbellford/Brighton travelled to Toronto to attend the annual “Day at the Legislature”. Since 2000, this event has provided an opportunity for members and friends of Community Living to meet with members of the provincial legislature. Co-sponsored by Community Living Ontario and Community Living Toronto, the “Day at the Legislature” also provides an opportunity to celebrate the work that has been done collectively to create a more inclusive society and to look ahead at the work that still lays before us.
Awareness Booth
An Awareness Booth (complete with everyone’s favorite Plinko game!) was in place at the front of our Campbellford Community Resource Centre during the week of May 23-27, 2016.
As part of “Community Living Month” and our Public Awareness Campaign, our Brighton Community Resource Centre hosted an Awareness Booth during the week of May 16-20 with a backyard BBQ on May 19, 2016.
Appetite for Awareness
Appetite for Awareness has long been one of the Organization’s main stays in celebration of “May is Community Living Month”. On May 18, 2016 a nutritious, pre-ordered, brown bag lunch was provided to individuals, schools and businesses in Brighton, Campbellford and Warkworth. This year, an invitation to participate was extended to Percy Centennial Public School in Warkworth as well as to the entire school population at Hillcrest and Kent Public Schools and St. Mary Catholic Elementary all located in Campbellford. Made possible by generous donations and contributions from local businesses, the event also provides the opportunity for Hillcrest Public School students to learn about volunteering and community involvement at a young age. The long term support of Mr. Muldoon and this year’s Grade 7/8 students is greatly appreciated!
Northumberland Big Bike Ride
Community Living Campbellford/Brighton partnered with Lakeland Multi-trade of Cobourg and took part in the Northumberland Big Bike Ride May 24, 2016 in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The CLC/B Lakeland Multi-trade “Heart Throbs” raised $1,762.00 in support of this worthwhile cause!
